My name is Riyadh Muhammad Hassan Abu Mughaisib.
I am 23 years old, married, and originally from Deir al-Balah, Gaza.
Before the war, I was an active young man. I worked hard, helped others, and dreamed of building a simple, stable life with my family.
Everything changed in May 2024.
A government building in Deir al-Balah was bombed. When the attack happened, I did not run away. I went back again and again, helping Civil Defence to rescue the injured. I carried people on my back, taking them to ambulances, believing that saving lives was my duty.
On my third rescue attempt, while I was on the third floor carrying a woman to safety, the building was bombed again.
I lost consciousness.
When I woke up, I was in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. A metal plate had been inserted into my leg. My bones were exposed. I lay in that condition for eight days. My leg turned black, became severely infected, and maggots appeared in the wound. Doctors told me there was no choice — my leg had to be amputated to save my life.
I spent more than three months in hospital.
My other leg was also badly injured and required constant treatment. I underwent grafts and painful wound care every week. During this time, I also received the devastating news that my brother had been martyred. I cried, prayed, and asked Allah for strength — and by His mercy, I endured.
After leaving the hospital, I had no home to return to. Our house had been destroyed. I lived in displacement tents for months — first in Zawaida, then in Mawasi — without electricity, water, or food. I returned to my neighbourhood only to find it in ruins. I pitched a tent among the rubble.
Despite everything, I held onto hope. I wanted to live. I wanted to build a family. Alhamdulillah, I got married — but shortly after, I was approved to travel to Egypt for treatment.
I came to Egypt with hope in my heart.
Before the war, I worked as a truck driver. I supported myself and those around me. Today, I rely on crutches. I cannot work. I cannot live independently. I cannot provide for my wife the way I should.
What I need now is a high-quality prosthetic limb.
A proper prosthetic will allow me to walk again, return to work, and rebuild my life with dignity. It is not a luxury — it is my path back to independence, stability, and self-reliance.
Your support can help me stand again — not just on a prosthetic limb, but on my own feet, with dignity.
May Allah reward you for easing the hardship of others.
